92- And to recite the Quran “Whoever comes to guidance does for himself; and if any stray, say “I am only a warner.”

93- Say “All praise be to God. He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. Your Lord is never unaware of anything you do.”

                                                                                                              27. The Ant, 92-93

The verse number 93 above predicts that God will reveal His miracles sometime in the future. The miraculous statements of the Quran are presented separately from the Prophet’s(darood) sayings. Even if all the knowledge of the Prophet’s (Darood)era were put together, it would not suffice to vie with these miracles. Had the author of these miracles been Muhammad(Darood) of the deserts himself, he would have used them in order to impress his own people, to demonstrate them the perfection of the Quran and to put an end to their recalcitrance. The Muslim world itself was unaware of these miracles until quite recently, namely up until 40 years ago. God reveals His miracles when the time is ripe. Persons of sound mind and clear conscience will appreciate these miracles, praise God and thank Him.

20- They say “How is it that no sign was sent to him by His Lord. Whatever can not be perceived belongs to God. So wait and I am waiting with you.”

                                                                                                10. Jonah, 20

The fact that God will show His miracles in the future is also confirmed in the above verse. Disbelievers insist on miracles, and yet when they see one performed they pursue in their disbelief. It is clear that the insistence of disbelievers is far from an honest demand, and it is antagonism for antagonism’s sake.

Venus creep across the surface of the sun [on-06.06.2012]:-

For the last time in 105 years, Earthlings and astronauts watched the planet Venus creep across the surface of the sun during a nearly seven-hour transit.

The prime viewing zone took in most of the Americas, the Pacific and Asia. But even if you weren’t in the transit zone itself, or even if the weather was lousy (as it was for me in the Seattle area), you could get in on the action over the Internet, thanks to NASA and more than a dozen other webcasters. Pictures and videos were streaming in, from around the globe as well as from the orbiting International Space Station. Here’s a sampling:

Submitted by Robert Wetzel / UGC

Robert Wetzel sent in this picture of the Venus transit from San Diego, using’s FirstPerson photo-sharing tool. The picture was taken using a Celestron G5 telescope and a Nikon D300 camera with a solar filter. Focal length is approximately 1875mm.

Multiple images from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory were combined to produce this picture tracking Venus’ path from one side of the sun to the other.

The first scientific observation of a Venus transit took place in 1639, and there have been six other transits since then. Because of the orbital mechanics of our solar system, Venus can be seen crossing the sun’s disk from Earth in pairs of occurrences separated by eight years. There are gaps of either 105.5 or 121.5 years between one pair and the next. One transit took place in 2004, and today’s crossing was the second transit of the pair. The next transit won’t be seen until the year 2117 — thus, this was the last event of its kind that anyone alive today is likely to see.

Scientifically speaking, the most important moments came when Venus crossed the edge of the sun’s disk. That’s when the sunlight refracted by Venus’ atmosphere could be most easily detected, revealing the atmosphere’s chemical signature. Astronomers eventually hope to use a similar technique to analyze the atmosphere of Earthlike planets passing across alien suns, so this transit provided a good practice run for the technique. Even the Hubble Space Telescope tried out the method, checking the characteristics of the sunlight reflected by the moon during the transit. We’ll be hearing more about the results of those experiments in the weeks ahead.

But there’s more than science involved here: Sue Ah Chim, a researcher at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute in South Korea, told The Associated Press that he hoped the transit would lead people to see life from a larger perspective and “not get caught up in their small, everyday problems.”

“When you think about it from the context of the universe, 105 years is a very short period of time, and the earth is only a small, pale blue spot,” he said.

At Los Angeles’ Griffith Observatory, Jamie Jetton and her two nephews from Arizona, aged 6 and 11, sported sun-viewing glasses as the followed the transit. “It’s an experience,” she told AP. “It’s something we’ll talk about for the rest of our lives.”

Venus on the move

The planet Venus passes across the sun, an astronomical event that won’t be seen again until 2117. NBC’s Mike Taibbi reports.

>>> what’s happening tonight in the sky will never happen again in our lifetime, most of us. the planet venus is passing between us and the sun. once it’s over it won’t happen again until 2117. a lot of folks are gathering to watch safely. mike taibbi is among them in griffith park in l.a.

>> reporter: a festive afternoon here at l.a.’s griffith observatory . it started at 3:07 pacific time . though it’s not technically an eclipse, you have to wear eclipse caliber eye protection to see it happen. it’s not as dramatic as a lunar or solar eclipse . no suddenly darkened skies. a transit of venus shows itself as a distinct dark dot inching slowly across the face of the sun. it takes just under seven hours for the dot to move across the sun. hawaii is a prime viewing spot and then moving across europe and the rest of the eastern hemisphere wednesday morning. nasa is streaming for those who want to follow on screen. for hundreds of astronomy bfs donning these special glasses is the only way to go.

>> it’s a once in a lifetime feeling.

>> there’s purely scientific events beyond their rarity. the last one in 2004 . astronomers learn more during their duration of the universe beyond our solar system . more than 60 additional planets have been discovered circling their own sons.

>> in the history of astrong me it’s important, because it’s linked to the successful understanding of how the solar system is laid out.

>> among those with the best view, the astronauts aboard the insister national space station . no matter how excited you might be to see it, don’t look toward the sun without proper protection. now, only six of these transits have been observed since they were first discovered in the 17th century . if you miss this one, the next one is on december 10th of the year 2117.

>> cool stuff. you’re in a great spot to see it.

The Quran mentioned the importance of mathematics 1400 years ago

(They see the miracles of islam, but remain adamant of their stubbornness)

92- And to recite the Quran “Whoever comes to guidance does for himself; and if any stray, say “I am only a warner.”

93- Say “All praise be to God. He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. Your Lord is never unaware of anything you do.”

                                                                                                              27. The Ant, 92-93

The verse number 93 above predicts that God will reveal His miracles sometime in the future. The miraculous statements of the Quran are presented separately from the Prophet’s sayings. Even if all the knowledge of the Prophet’s era were put together, it would not suffice to vie with these miracles. Had the author of these miracles been Muhammad of the deserts himself, he would have used them in order to impress his own people, to demonstrate them the perfection of the Quran and to put an end to their recalcitrance.

146- I will divert from My signs those who behave unjustly with arrogance on earth. Even though they see every kind of signs, they will not believe and when they see the path of guidance, will not take it to be a way. But when they see the path of straying, they will adopt it as their path. This is so for they have called our signs lies, and have been heedless of them.

                                                                                                                 7. The Purgatory, 146

Persons unwilling to learn patent truths and braggarts about God’s religion, say arrogantly “We are self-sufficient and we have no need for a God”. This behavior renders them blind to the miracles of the Quran. Even if they do see the miracles, they remain adamant because of their stubbornness. There are people who equate religion with tradition, while others take it as a social phenomenon, a consequence of social pressure, they shun hard facts. All of these people mentioned above can not comprehend the miracles of the Quran. The natural scientific and mathematical miracles of the Quran address the reason of men. People arrogant of the potential of human intelligence who think that religion is a way of belief utterly devoid of discursive reason or those who consider religion as a source of profitable trade can not comprehend these miracles. Individuals who see religion as a tool for trade prefer to approach it through false authorities. They deny access to reason as far as religion is concerned for fear of obliterating ex cathedra pronouncements of authorities immersed in beliefs, of forgers and fakers and self-seeking theologists. Any controversy on the issue would undermine the authority of the powers that be.

Mathematics is a basic tool and a common language of all sciences. Mathematical certainty has always impressed philosophers throughout history. The importance of it was appreciated better after the 16th century. Big improvements were achieved in sciences, because of the scientific approach adopted that placed mathematics right in the center. Cars, trains, satellites, medications, communication means and the technological wonders of the modern age owe their origins to mathematics. Without mathematics we could not understand the universe, nor could we come up with an invention.

“Mathematics may and must be the common link among intellectual disciplines.”

Mathematics should be considered as the biggest discovery of mankind From Edison’s electric bulb to race cars, from Einstein’s theory of relativity to Newton’s Law of Gravitation, all these inventions owe their origin to the fundamental importance of mathematics’ language. The Quran mentioned the importance of mathematics 1400 years ago. It continuously draws our attention to the sensitive balance and the role of mathematics in the universe.

The sun and the moon are calculated.

                                                    55. Gracious, 5

(55.  5: In the great astronomical universe there are exact mathematical laws, which bear witness to Allah’s Wisdom and also to His favours to His creatures; for we all profit by the heat and light, the seasons, and the numerous changes in the tides and the atmosphere, on which the constitution of our globe and the maintenance of life depend.

Yusuf Ali’s Commentary from QuranTrans)

In the process that started with Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo, which involved the movements of the sun, the world and the moon, mathematics, played a role of towering importance. They had discovered that God had expressed the universe in the language of mathematics. The Quran indicated this very important point 1400 years ago. The Quran sees no contradiction between the creation of the universe based on teleological causality and the definition of universal phenomena in terms of mathematical formulations.

If the universe is the product of God and expressed in the language of mathematics, no wonder that God’s book, the Quran, has also used the same language. God displays His miracles with the incontestable certainty of mathematics. Moses(Aa:) had worked miracles in an age when magic was in fashion and converted the magicians and the Quran displayed its mathematical miracles in an age when science and its language mathematics were at their peaks. Now that considerable advance has been made in mathematical logic, the importance of such miracles will be understood more clearly. People trying to antagonize religion by having recourse to science will be disarmed. God’s plan is perfect. God’s timing is perfect. God’s miracles in His Book are perfect.

In our age, every science is in pursuit of mathematical certainty and approval. Even if it fails to find that certainty, it envies those have it. People searching for certainty in religion also look for a mathematical language. Carl Sagan is an author on astronomy and his imaginative explanations in his book “Contact” is a good example of people’s expectations of mathematical proofs from God.

“No, do not you see: This would be different. This is not just starting the universe out with some precise mathematical laws that determine physics and chemistry. This is a message. Whoever makes the universe hides messages in transcendental numbers so they’ll be read fifteen billion years later when intelligent life finally evolves. I criticized you and Rankin the time we first met for not understanding this. ‘If God wanted us to know that He existed, why didn’t he send us an unambiguous message? I asked. Remember?”

“I remember very well. You think God is a mathematician.”

“Something like that. If what we’re told is true. If this is not a wild-goose chase. If there’s a message hiding in pi and not one of the infinity of other transcendental numbers. That’s a lot of ifs.”

“You’re looking for Revelation in arithmetic. I know a better way.”

“Palmer, this is the only way. This is the only thing that would convince a skeptic. Imagine we find something. It doesn’t have to be tremendously complicated. Just something more orderly than could accumulate by chance that many digits into pi. That’s all we need. Then mathematicians all over the world can find exactly the same pattern or message or whatever it proves to be. Then there are no sectarian divisions. Everybody begins reading the same Scripture. No one could then argue that the key miracle in the religion was some conjurer’s trick, or that later historians had falsified the record, or that it is just hysteria or delusion or a substitute parent for when grow up. Everyone could be a believer.” (Carl Sagan, Contact, Simon and Schuster, the number 1985, 418-4the number 19, New York)

The conversation above is quoted from Carl Sagan, an astronomer, not conversant with the Quran’s mathematical miracles. In his work, he displays the imaginative approach of philosophers: God’s mathematical evidence. As a universal language leaving no room for suspicion, mathematics has always attracted philosophers and scientists. The quotation above is a proof of this. God, well aware of the values and conditions of our time and of the desires of the human mind, answers this search for certainty with mathematics at a time when this science is at its peak. Just like it is mentioned in the Quran: “not complicated” and “impossible to imitate.”

Some points must be added to Carl Sagan’s quotation: Supposing that such a miracle did happen, it would be wrong to think that the public will land credence to it. The psychology of the cynic who never gives in, who is always keen in finding loopholes and who avoids the common sense will be deaf and blind to clearest evidences. Miracles whose spokesman is mathematics admit no refutation. However not everybody is endowed with such bagacity.

23- If you are in doubt of what we have revealed to our Servant, and then bring a sura like this, and call any witness, apart from God, you like if you are truthful.

24- But if you cannot, as indeed you cannot, then guard yourselves against the fire whose fuel is men and rocks which has been prepared for the disbelievers.

                                                                           2. The Cow, 23- 24

You will see very clearly that it is quite impossible to imitate even a single sura in the Quran, when you start reading the sections of the present work on the Quran’s mathematical miracles. Every sura happens to be encoded and the words used in them are interlocked in mathematical terms and every particular sura is locked in by a mathematical code.

36- Do not follow that of which you have no knowledge. Because the ear, the eye and the heart, each will be questioned.

                                                                           17. The Children of Israel, 36

The mathematical and scientific miracles God displays are for the people who use their minds and have intention to see them. Stubborn deniers, people taking advantage of religion and people who experience it by imitating the people around themselves; they can not draw any benefit of these miracles unless they change their self seeking attitudes. God despises the people who imitate other people as ritual. The real value is in the people who do not expect any worldly benefits, who use their minds, explore, and search for evidences in the universe and in the holy books. Woe to emulators deprived of discursive reason who believes in what a saint or a sheik says so and follows the things they do not know. May God protect us from people who sell their religion in consideration for a few dollars, euros, gold coins and seek reputation, and from these who represent religion as myths and dreams?

God sent us a book the contents of which are endorsed by the miracles it reveals. It displays miracles and proofs contents being coded in mathematical criteria. The Quran is a guide for us.

50- For they say:” How is it no signs were sent down to Him from His Lord?” Say “The signs are with God. I am only a plain Warner.”

51- Is it not sufficient for them that We have revealed the Book to you which is read out to them? It is indeed a grace and reminder for people who believe.

                                                                                   29. The Female Spider, 50. 51.

Of the Quran’s the 83rd sura, the Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen), speaks of an “encoded book” in two instances. The Arabic of this word is “kitabun markum.” These verses are evidences of God’s encoding the books, His involving mathematics into the system. The following verses are representative specimens.

7- Indeed, the book of the wicked is in Sijjeen.

8- Do you know what Sijjeen is?

9- A numerically structured book.

                                                    83. The Cheaters, 7- 9

17- They will be told “This is what you used to deny.”

18- Indeed, the book of the righteous will be in “elleyyeen.”

19- Do you know what “elleyyeen” is?

20- A numerically structured book.

21- To be witnessed by those close to Me.

                                                     83. The Cheaters, 17-21

The Quran speaks of numerically structured figures with reference both to the good and to the evil. While these who are brought close to this encoded book can testify, the same is not made available for the evil charecters. The evil charecters call the proofs of God as legends and deny their truth. (The Cheaters,13). The evidences in hand show that the Quran is a numerically structured scripture. There are those who confirm this while others assert that its contents but legends and stories. It is a boon of God to be able to appreciate and to confirm these miracles.

We have divided the presentation of the mathematical miracles into two groups. The first group consists of the Mathematical Miracles of concordance (MMLH)). We shall tackle the subject from different angles: (1) the lexical concordance (2) the concordance of words among themselves and (3) the concordance of words with Universal phenomenon. These miracles are easy to understand but impossible to imitate. Even the ones who are not really interested in mathematics can easily understand the miracles in question. The second part takes up the “miracle of the number 19”. We shall dwell particularly number 19, an enigmatic figure mentioned in the Quran. We shall see that the whole Quran is imbued with it. Anybody who can count from 1 to 19 can easily witness to this miracle, easy to understand but impossible to imitate. We run across this mystery in many instances. To understand all the characteristics that this number contains one must have recourse to the theory of probability and a deeper research is needed.

While writing the mathematical sections of our book for the MMLH miracles, we had recourse to works like Abdülrezzak Nevfel’s and for the sections treating of number 19, we used different studies like Cesar Majul’s, Rashad Khalifa’s Richard Voss’ and Milan Sulc’s. We are not acquainted with any of these people. We did not include any of these people’s ideas on religion into our book. We have been careful not to get involved in any debates among believers although to discuss would be fruitful. But it is out side our main concern. We were also very careful not to include mathematical miracles which have not been sanctioned. A person who affirms that “The Quran is God’s book” must realize the importance of this miracle and must be grateful to God.

Whatever the identities of the discoverers of these miracles were, the miracles the Quran contain will not be affected in any way because they are the Quran’s miracles and they were there to be discovered. Their truth can be checked anytime. Even if the discoverer’s being an atheist would not hurt the truth. (For example, the word month is used 12 times in the Quran. Whoever discovers this fact makes no difference because it has been there for 1400 years. It is very easy to check the truth of this.)

Skepticism is a widespread sickness of our age. The mathematical miracles of the Quran can be checked any time and this is the best answer for the skepticism. These miracles are not ephemeral phenomena. The Quran and its miracles are there and can be checked any time.

88- Say, “If all the humans and the jinns came together in order to produce a The Quran like this, they would surely fail, no matter how much assistance they lent one another.”

“By heaven furnished with paths;” (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 7)

The Arabic word alhubuki,” translated as “furnished with paths” in verse 7 of Surat adh-Dhariyat, comes from the verb hubeke,” meaning “to weave closely, to knit, to bind together.” The use of this word in the verse is particularly wise and represents the current state of scientific knowledge in two aspects.

The first is this: The orbits and paths in the universe are so dense and intertwined that they constitute intersecting paths, just like the threads in a piece of fabric. The Solar System we live in is made up of the Sun, the planets and their satellites and heavenly objects in constant motion such as meteors and comets. The Solar System moves through the galaxy known as the Milky Way, which contains 400 billion stars.1 It is estimated that there are billions of galaxies. Celestial bodies and systems revolving at speeds of thousands of kilometers an hour move through space without colliding with one another.

The science of astronomy was developed with the aim of mapping the positions and courses of stars, while astro-mechanics was developed in order to determine these complex motions. Astronomers used to assume that orbits were perfectly spherical. The fact is, however, that heavenly bodies are known to follow mathematical shapes, such as spherical, elliptical, parabolic or hyperbolic orbits. Dr. Carlo Rovelli of the University of Pittsburgh says, “Our space in which we live is just this enormously complicated spin network.”2

Above left; the orbits of some of the bodies in the Solar System. Based on this picture and looking clockwise, it can be seen that the Solar System itself is part of even greater orbital movements.3

The picture above shows some of the complex movements of stars.

This picture shows the approximately annual movements of just
seven stars in the Milky Way.

The second aspect is that the description in the Qur’an of the sky using a word meaning “woven” may be a reference to the String Theory of physics. (Allah knows the truth.) According to this theory, the basic elements that comprise the universe are not point-like particles, but strings resembling miniature violin strings. These tiny, identical and one dimensional strings oscillating in the form of filaments are regarded as being like loops in appearance. It is assumed that the origin of all the diversity in the universe lies in the way these strings vibrate at different vibrations, in the same way that violin strings produce different sounds with different vibrations.4

Although it is not possible to see the size of the threads in the String Theory, the only theory to bring theories such as Einstein’s theory of general relativity and quantum mechanics together in a coherent way, it can still be calculated mathematically. These strings, which scientists regard as the material from which space and time are woven, are just 1.6×10-35 m (0.000000000000000000000000000000000016 meters) in size.5 This, known as Plank’s length, is the smallest known, being just 10-20 of the protons that make up the nucleus of that atom.6 If an atom were to be magnified to the size of the Solar System, each one of these strings would be no bigger than a tree. 7 Bearing in mind that an atom is 100,000 times smaller than the smallest thing that can be seen with the naked eye, the minute scale of these strings can be more easily grasped.

Professor of Physics Abhay Ashtekar from the University of Pennsylvania and Professor of Physics Jerzy Lewandowski from the University of Warsaw interpret the woven appearance of space as follows in an article titled “Space and Time Beyond Einstein”:

In this theory, Einstein wove the gravitational field into the very fabric of space and time… The continuum we are all used to is only an approximation. Perhaps the simplest way to visualize these ideas is to look at a piece of fabric. For all practical purposes, it represents a 2-dimensional continuum; yet it is really woven by 1-dimensional threads. The same is true of the fabric of space-time. It is only because the “quantum threads” which weave this fabric are tightly woven in the region of the universe we inhabit that we perceive a continuum. Upon intersection with a surface, each thread, or polymer excitation, endows it with a tiny “Plank quantum” of area of about 10-66 cm2. So an area of 100 cm2 has about 1068 such intersections; because the number is so huge, the intersections are very closely spaced and we have the illusion of a continuum.8

An Article in the New York Times seeking an answer to the question “How Was the Universe Built?” contained the following lines:

Even the tiny quarks that make up protons, neutrons and other particles are too big to feel the bumps that may exist on the Planck scale. More recently, though, physicists have suggested that quarks and everything else are made of far tinier objects: superstrings vibrating in 10 dimensions. At the Planck level, the weave of space-time would be as apparent as when the finest Egyptian cotton is viewed under a magnifying glass, exposing the warp and woof.9

In his book Three Roads to Quantum Gravity, the theoretical quantum physicist Lee Smolin devotes one chapter to “How to Weave a String” and says this on the subject:

… space may be ‘woven’ from a network of loops… just like a piece of cloth is ‘woven’ from a network of threads.10

In his book Our Cosmic Habitat the cosmologist and astrophysicist Prof. Martin Rees says:

According to our present concepts, empty space is anything but simple… and on an even tinier scale, it may be a seething tangle of strings.11

The way that Allah describes the universe as being woven paths and orbits in verse 7 of Surat adh-Dhariyat shows that the Qur’an is in extraordinary agreement with science. As can be seen in a great many other instances, the way that all the information revealed in the Qur’an 1400 years ago is confirmed by modern scientific data is highly thought provoking. This perfect harmony between the Qur’an and scientific developments clearly reveals that the Qur’an is the word of our Lord, the creator of and He who knows best about all things. In one verse Allah states:

“Will they not ponder the Qur’an? If it had been from other than Allah, they would have found many inconsistencies in it.” (Surat an-Nisa, 82)

The University of Pittsburgh physicist Carlo Rovelli presents a model woven like a web in order to represent the microscopic architectural structure of the universe.

Atom and Universe

Not even an atom’s weight in the heavens and the earth, or something smaller or greater than it is hidden from Him, but all are in a clear record.

34-Sheba, 3

The atom is the smallest particle of matter. God drew attention to the existence of the atom, laying emphasis on the importance of its knowledge. A naked eye looking at a table, a carpet, a wall or a stone cannot fully grasp the importance of the atom and the knowledge it contains. While the Quran stresses the importance of the atom, it emphasizes also the subatomic particles, “Or something smaller or greater than.” In the expression “greater than” is comprised the knowledge of the greater compositions like molecules, the entirety of which is within God’s ken.

Men contemporary with the Prophet could not possibly have known that in the atom and subatomic particles and their compounds different types of knowledge were comprised. The Quran asserts the omniscience of God. Drawing attention to the existence of the atom and the subatomic particles is relevant to the present day information that physics has discovered.

The knowledge obtained today by means of cosmological physics studying the science of the origin and structure of the universe are interrelated with the data of atomic physics. Another miraculous sign of the Quran is its referring to the weight (miskale in Arabic) of the atom wherever the word “zerre” (atom) is mentioned.

Imagine you are eating a pizza with great relish. What are its ingredients? Sausage, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes and flour. What are the constituents of these sausages, cheeses, mushrooms and tomatoes and what are the constituents of the constituents? This series of questions leads us to molecules. The molecules themselves are made up of atoms such as oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. Then come protons and electrons, together forming eventually the nucleus of the atom…

The entire universe is made of matter or energy. From the trunk of a tree to its leaves, from the hands of a human being to his eyes, from golden ornaments to cotton dresses, everything is matter. The atom is the individual structure that constitutes the basic unit of any chemical element.

The proton is an elementary particle that is the positively charged constituent of ordinary matter, and, like the neutron, is the building stone of atomic nuclei. The electron is an elementary particle that is the negatively charged constituent of ordinary matter. These are the recent discoveries of science that led us to the discovery of the television, computer, Internet, etc. Take, for instance, a grain of sand in the palm, which is assumed to be the simplest matter, and think of the quadrillion of atoms it contains; quadrillions of atoms you could not finish counting throughout the span of your lifetime. Imagine that each of these atoms has its electrons moving around the nuclei, like the planets making their rounds around the sun. A quadrillion solar systems contained within a grain of sand or piece of rock in your palm. An intelligent mind will readily conceive that there is nothing simple in the universe. Be it a pizza or a rock, suppose that you fancy recomposing them. To embark on such a huge project, you must go back to the very beginning, to the primeval explosion, and repeat the process. In this odyssey, you will run into atoms, cornerstones of the universe, entailing the existence of protons, electrons and neutrons; then you will be faced by the gaseous substance made of hydrogen and helium; these will be followed by stars and atoms produced in these stars which will one day be transformed into the mushrooms, cheese and tomatoes of our pizza. In order to really make a pizza, we need to create the entire universe with all the stages it had.

The more you delve into the study of the atom the greater becomes your wonder. Suppose a penny on the table is the nucleus of an atom. The orbit that the electron would trace around it would be at a distance of 2-3 km. What is in between? The distance between the two, i.e., the nucleus and the electrons, is a vacuum. In other words, a piece of rock held in our hand contains in it quadrillions of solar systems, but 99.99% of it is a vacuum. Interesting, isn’t it?

While we observed the fact that the universe was replete with orbits as described in the verse (51-The Dispersing, 7), we witnessed the infinitude of God’s power and magnitude. This divine power is demonstrated through more than one hundred million galaxies, more than a hundred million stars contained in each, countless planets and satellites and their quadrillions of devised orbits. A grain of sand, then, contains quadrillions of miniature replicas of the solar system where electrons dance around the nuclei of quadrillions of atoms. What should one deduce from this? To begin with, the incommensurable magnitude of our Creator’s power is also observed in the depth of matter. Endless vastness has been created from these particles. The motion of the atom is the same movement around the center of limitless magnitudes. The system in any given galaxy and the one forming a particle of dust

is the same system. The Author of that speck of dust is also the Author of the universe. All these phenomena point to the immensity of His power and to the order reigning in the universe, as well as to the fact that nothing is casual in His creation. The creation of the smallest and of the biggest is equal for Him. The creation of a point containing trillions of atoms and of immense space is equal for Him and difficulty is a notion not applicable for Him. There is no limit to His wisdom and power.

27- And if all the trees on earth were made into pens, and the ocean supplied the ink, augmented by seven more oceans, the words of God would not run out. God is indeed Almighty and Wise.

31-Luqmaan, 27

The nucleus of the atom contains protons charged with positive electricity. These positive charges repel each other. The miracle of creation occurs when protons adhere to each other forming a single point. The power that confines the protons repelling each other and the neutrons within a single point is immense; it is called strong nuclear force. The elementary particles containing this force are referred to with the French epithet “gluons” meaning “sticky” (The immense destructive energy of the atomic bomb was obtained by the use of this force). God, who devised everything in the universe with mathematical precision, has also conceived this immense force with mathematical exactitude. This force adheres the mutually repelling protons to each other; had the power been weaker or stronger, the protons could disintegrate or it could cause the intrusion of protons and neutrons into each other.

The atomic bomb demonstrated tragically the immense power of the atom. It also showed that one of the factors that contributed to our worldly existence is its intrinsic balance. Thanks to the welladjusted order reigning in this field, matter does not disintegrate all of a sudden, giving rise to noxious effects of radiation. Another important factor that contributes to the stability of the atom is the weak force inherent in it. This force is particularly important in establishing the balance of the nuclei that comprise an excessive number of neutrons and protons.

Electromagnetic force is another factor contributing to the existence of atom. It is this force that brings about the attraction of oppositely charged particles and the repulsion of particles having like electric charges. This has made possible the coming together of the protons and electrons. However, this coming together has its limits. Electrons do not stick to the protons while they move at a breathtaking speed around the nucleus in their orbits. The repulsion of negatively charged electrons turning in succession, and the attraction of the electrons by the protons changes nothing. In this way, the electron does not stick to the proton that attracts it, nor is it moved away. The Creator of this system, of these electrons, deprived of consciousness, is undoubtedly the Creator of matter, atoms, electrons, etc. Let us make an experiment as conscious human beings. Imagine tying a rope around the waists of three or four people while others stand in the middle of the circle. Let those in the middle try to pull the tied people towards themselves while the outside people are circumnavigating the center, and let the people making the circle push each other and those in the center as well, resembling the movement within the nucleus of an atom. We certainly do not expect them to make thousands of rotations per second like an electron. Can reasonable human beings continue to imitate the motion of an atom for the length of one minute? And imagine for an instant that we venture to imitate the model of an atom with 3 or 4 orbits and that there are three or four rotations around the symbolic nucleus. In addition to this, suppose that sumo wrestlers representing the gluons with adhesive properties within the nucleus try to keep those pulling the rope while pushing each other at their places. What an awkward experience this would be! How have the protons and electrons been performing this feast over and over again endlessly for eons and eons with the quadrillions of atoms contained in a small rock?

These atoms existing in the universe and in our bodies were produced long ago in supernovas. The calcium in our teeth, the carbon that our pizza contains, and the iron atoms in our body are products of stars of high temperatures. These raw materials of the universe are prepared in the laboratory of these stars before being transformed into pizzas, water, blood, flesh, teeth and eyes.

This is not a story of an adventure taking place far away from us. Our hands, hair, eyes, our very food and the chair we sit on, everything is performing this process indiscriminately. Our Creator is perpetuating this process incessantly with His omnipotence and omniscience. All these movements of the atom and the energy inherent in it are what perpetuate our existence.

2- To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. No son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion. It is He who created all things, and ordered them in exact measure.

25-The Distinguisher, 2

It is estimated that there are some 080 particles in the universe. Add 80 zeros after 1 to have an idea of this magnitude. [Some estimates imply that practically all the matter, when measured by numbers of particles, in the visible universe (not including dark matter) is in the form of neutrinos, and that roughly 1086 elementary particles of matter exist in the visible universe, mostly neutrinos.[5] Some estimates imply that roughly 1097 elementary particles exist in the visible universe (not including dark matter), mostly photons, gravitons, and other massless force carriers.[5]  -wikipedia]These particles function thanks to complex, ingeniously devised and balanced forces. So do the comets, supernovas and planets, a consequence of the harmonious interaction of these particles. What else must one bring forth to give an idea of the power and design lying behind all these? In this chapter, I tried to outline the structure of an atom and emphasize that it was extremely complex, perfect and ingeniously devised. Were we to push our exploration further, our wonder would be much greater. The emergence of elementary particles in the wake of the Big Bang is the result of an intelligent design. The heat at every instant during the explosion, the number of atomic particles, the forces involved in every stage and their intensities have been carefully planned. Any change in these values would be the end of existence, of galaxies and atoms, and would end up in chaos. The consequence of this primeval explosion was not chaos as might be expected, but a perfect harmony, the work of the Creator, governed by physical laws, a perfect order reigning among galaxies and atoms.

Tiny units of split seconds had their function to perform in the creation of the universe. Had the particles and anti-particles been created in equal number, all of them would be destroyed when the temperature fell below one billion degrees, leaving behind nothing but

radiation. The very fact of our existence is evidence to the contrary. The number of electrons had to be somewhat more than the number of positrons and the number of protons should exceed the number of anti-protons and the figure representing the neutrons should be superior to the number of anti-neutrons.

Every particle had to come into being at a predetermined velocity, temperature and time sequence. The primeval explosion was designed in such a way that it was followed by an evolution that reflected the Creator’s ingenious artistry. We have touched on the structure of the atom and the formation of atomic particles after the primeval explosion. The more one delves into the mystery of creation the more one’s wonder and amazement increase. The actual magnificence of the atom, the creation of particles of the atom by an intelligent design and the transformation of the particles into atoms are beyond the grasp of the intellect. If 1080 particles, with mutually attracting and repulsing electricity charges, had not been transformed into atoms in a finely balanced manner, neither the human ego, nor the book we read, nor the earth we inhabit would exist.

Whether we ascend to the heavens or descend to the microscopic depths, we encounter the same perfection and immensity of God’s work and design.

120- To God do belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that there is therein, and it is He who has power over all things.

So We revealed to Moses, ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ And it split in two, each part like a towering cliff. (Surat Ash-Shu’ara’, 63)

The Egyptian monarchs known as the pharaohs regarded themselves as divine in the polytheistic, superstitious religion of ancient Egypt. Allah sent the Prophet Moses (pbuh) as an envoy to the people of Egypt at a time when they preferred their own superstitious beliefs to the true faith and when they had enslaved the Israelites. However, despite the Prophet Moses (pbuh)’s invitation to the true faith, the ancient Egyptians and Pharaoh and his court in particular, refused to abandon their pagan beliefs. The Prophet Moses (pbuh) told Pharaoh and his court the things they ought to avoid and warned them of the wrath of Allah.  But they rebelled and falsely accused the Prophet Moses (pbuh) of madness, sorcery and mendacity. Although various tribulations were inflicted on Pharaoh and his people, they still did not submit to Allah; they refused to accept Allah as the one and only God. They even held the Prophet Moses (pbuh) responsible for what had befallen them and sought to exile him from Egypt. At this, Allah told the Prophet Moses (pbuh) and those with him to leave where they were:

We revealed to Moses: ‘Travel with Our slaves by night. You will certainly be pursued.’ Pharaoh sent marshals into the cities: ‘These people are a small group and we find them irritating and we constitute a vigilant majority.’ We expelled them from gardens and springs, from treasures and a splendid situation. So it was! And We bequeathed them to the tribe of Israel. So they pursued them towards the east. (Surat Ash-Shu’ara’, 52-60)

As revealed in the Qur’an, when the two peoples came together at the end of this chase, Allah rescued the Prophet Moses (pbuh) and the believers with him by parting the sea, while destroying Pharaoh and his people. Allah’s assistance to the believers is revealed as follows in the Qur’an:

So We revealed to Moses, ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ And it split in two, each part like a towering cliff. And We brought the others right up to it. We rescued Moses and all those who were with him. Then We drowned the rest. There is certainly a Sign in that yet most of them are not believers. Truly your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. (Surat Ash-Shu’ara’, 63-68)

The Arabic word “idrib,” translated as “strike” in verse 63 of Surat ash-Shuara, also means “to open, divide or separate.” In the light of this expression and what happened subsequently, the verse may be a reference to the formation of tsunami waves. (Allah knows best.) Since tsunami waves cause large amounts of water to shift and thus give way to the emergence of earth on shallow grounds. In the time of the Prophet Moses (pbuh), as with the tsunami waves the waters might have pulled back some hundreds of meters and this might have caused the parting of the sea. (Allah knows best.)

In addition, the waters are compared to mountains in the above verse. The waters collected in a tsunami form a giant peak1 and resemble a mountain seen from below.  As with mountains, the base of the tsunami is very broad and strong. In tsunamis, the depth of the water declines while the mass of the wave expands and rises in height. Tsunamis may be up to 30m high.2 It is therefore very significant how the waters are likened to a mountain.

Tsunamis are very different to the waves we are familiar with, and are a movement of the entire depth of water. This is not generally restricted to the surface, and may stretch for several kilometers. They thus possess high levels of energy and move very fast.3 Scientific statements say this about tsunamis:

In fact the tsunami crest is just the very tip of a vast mass of water in motion…Wind-driven waves and swells are confined to a shallow layer near the ocean surface, a tsunami extends thousands of feet deep into the ocean…. Survivors of tsunami attacks describe them as dark “walls” of water. Impelled by the mass of water behind them, the waves bulldoze onto the shore and inundate the coast…

… The contours of the seafloor and coastline have a profound influence on the height of the waves — sometimes with surprising and dangerous results. During the 1993 tsunami attack on Okushiri, Japan, the wave “run up” on the coast averaged about 15 to 20 meters (50 – 65 feet). But in one particular spot, the waves pushed into a V-shaped valley open to the sea, concentrating the water in a tighter and tighter space. In the end, the water ran up to 32 meters (90 feet) above sea level, about the height of an 8-story office building. 4

The way that the past events described in the Qur’an are in complete agreement with present-day historic evidence and scientific advances, is without doubt one of the great miracles of the Qur’an. The way the waters parted when the Prophet Moses (pbuh) and his companions needed to cross and how they closed again over the heads of Pharaoh and his army are clear instances of the way Allah assists believers. Indeed, the Prophet Moses (pbuh) displayed an excellent example of proper moral values by trusting in Allah in that most difficult moment:

And when the two hosts came into sight of one another Moses’s companions said, ‘We will surely be overtaken!’  He said, ‘Never! My Lord is with me and He will guide me.’ (Surat Ash-Shu’ara’, 61-62)

The force applied to the sea floor causes mountainous waves to form by causing the water to rise up vertically.

Tsunami Formation:
Stage 1—Beginning: If the tsunami acts like an earthquake, the sea floor is moved up or down. As a result the mass of water moves up or down.

Stage 2 —Separation: Within a few minutes, the tsunami that starts to form divides in two, one part moving toward the depths of the ocean, the other reaching the coast.

Stage 3—Elevation: The tsunami wave reaching the shore rises up like a huge wave when it reaches the land.

Stage 4- Wave impact: The leading wave becomes pointed and appears to rise even higher. The first part of the wave to hit the land is convex in shape, which is why the water initially seems to be pulling away from the land.
